During this year we will learn about various historical time periods, current events, how to become better writers and a lot about being good citizens.

Hey students! Mr. Crawford is here with an update! I have just come back from my first trip to DC. I cannot wait to let you know all about this trip and all the things that I learned while I was there. Pictured here is the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. Inside is a 19 foot tall statue of Thomas Jefferson. We saw several monuments and had a really good time.I am planning on making an entire unit out of this trip to Washington, DC. I hope that all of you that are returning to my class in the fall will enjoy it and will learn a lot from it.

A Georgian Church Ruins

This ancient site is located just outside of Georgia and is a great example of teh culture and heritage of the people and history of the country.
The Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles which ended World War I was full of problems. It was very ineffective as a peace treaty in that it was one of the primary reasons for World War II to start.
First, it called for Germany to take full blame for the outbreak of the first World War. Secondly, it took important and vital areas of land away from Germany. Finally, and most importantly, it demanded extreme payments of war reparations to the victor nations. It is little wonder then that Germany was unable to recover from the First World War. The Weimar Republic (the country established in Germany after the First World War) would collapse very soon after it was created.
These conditions would allow for the rise of Adolph Hitler. He would find the country very willing to accept a charismatic leader promising to right the wrongs of the Treaty of Versailles and return Germany to its former greatness.

The New Cold War
We have been discussing how the United States and Russia have came to a clash of interests over the country of Georgia. Russia is worried at the possibility of Georgia becoming a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) ally with the United States. Russia has helped prevent this from happening by using its position and influence in the region.
Once the recent outbreak of violence happened to coincide with the Olympic Games, Russia used the opportunity to invade northern Ossetia and take control of key points within Georgia. This has caused a stalemate in relations between the United States and Russia that has not been seen since before the end of the Cold War.
Though Russia has largely pulled out of Ossetia, the precedent which has been set is very troubling for the world. Thankfully, relations have been repaired to some extent. How do you think we should handle the relationship between the United States and Russia? Does your way call for peace or violence?
